Burchell's Coucal
           
 
 
"Gewone Vleiloerie"    
A conspicuously coloured bird with a long tail. The call is a bubbling sound which is often heard on rainy days, hence the name "rainbird". Shy and secretive, creeping through the vegetation. Feeds on garden snails and insects, but also takes nestlings of other birds.
 
Habitat    

Freshwater areas, towns, cities, gardens, trees and thickets.

 
Food    
Insects, other terrestrial invertebrates, birds, small mammals and reptiles.
