Blue Wildebeest are grazers and prefer areas with short, green grass. They will seldom utilise grass higher than 10 to 15 cm. A wide variety of nutritious grasses are utilised. A very small proportion of the diet are said to be leaves and bark. Blue wildebeest are particularly fond of short green grasses which sprout in burned patches or after good rain. Themeda triandra, Digitaria argyrograpta as well as Panicum spp. are seen to be important food sources. Towards the end of the dry season blue wildebeest will utilise Cynodon dactylon
