Diagnostic are the brown, streaked head and the red bill with its black tip. The male has a black back and wing coverts, while the female's are brown. The immature is duller. Found away from water. Perches conspicuously on fences or branches and is thus often seen. Sometimes dives into water, but this is usually to bathe. |
