A very attractive turquoise and white kingfisher. The red and black stripe through the eye are diagnostic. The immature has a dusky bill and is finely barred. As the name indicates, it occurs in wooded areas away fro water. The trilling call "kritirrrrrr" is often heard in summer. Perches on the lower branches of a tree from where it hunts. |
